Celebrity fashion collaborations are quite common practice these days. Whether they have a hand in designing the clothes themselves or just simply front the campaigns, celebrities have huge selling power when it comes to fashion. The best collaborations occur when the celebrity used fits the brand’s market. Take a few examples of some popular celebrity fashion collaborations, below.
1. Kate Moss for Topshop
It was probably one of the best known and longest running celebrity fashion collaborations around. The Kate Moss for Topshop collaboration ran for three years, consisted of 14 collections, and each collection was highly coveted. The designs were a reflection of Moss’ own personal style – making it easier than ever for consumers to emulate her signature model-off-duty style!
2. Alexa Chung for Madewell
She’s the It Girl with impeccable style who regularly makes the best-dressed lists with her offbeat and quirky outfits. A clothing collaboration was inevitable, really. So far she’s had two successful collaborations with Madewell, with both collections proving popular with crowds and key pieces selling out quickly.
3. Agyness Deyn for Dr Martens
When you look at good celebrity fashion collaborations, it helps if the celebrity in question is a genuine fan of the brand. When model Agyness Deyn collaborated with iconic British footwear brand Dr Martens, you couldn’t have asked for a better fit. She’s the poster girl for Dr Martens, often seen wearing them way before collaboration was ever in the works. The collaboration resulted in a footwear, clothing and accessories line designed by Deyn.
4. Sofia Coppola for Louis Vuitton
A favourite with the alternative and indie set, director Sofia Coppola made her mark on the fashion world with a capsule collection for luxury leather goods brand Louis Vuitton. The bags were in the style of classic LV designs but also reflected Coppola’s minimalist approach to designer fashion.
5. Lana Del Rey for H&M
Capitalising on the hype around Lana Del Rey, chain store H&M enlisted the songstress to front some recent seasonal campaigns. While she didn’t design any of the clothes in question, there’s no doubt that they worked well with her personal style. The campaigns were very much styled in Del Rey’s signature look – sixties style with a modern edge.
6. Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony
For the alternative crowd, Chloe Sevigny is a popular style icon. In 2010 she collaborated with with Opening Ceremony to create a capsule collection that reflected her funky, fierce, and slightly feminine style. The collection featured plenty of 90s inspired grunge dresses and footwear, and was a perfect fit for the Opening Ceremony brand.
7. Nicole Richie for Macy’s Impulse
Well known for her edgy, boho style, Nicole Richie is no stranger to fashion design. She’s already got her own clothing label, Winter Kate, and jewellery label, House of Harlow. Her line for Macy’s Impulse featured her signature floaty dresses and tops mixed in with tailored blazers and faux leather separates, albeit at a much more accessible price point than her other labels.
These are just a few of the best celebrity fashion collaborations we’ve witnessed in recent years. Already, 2013 is buzzing with news of new collaborations – with songstress Rihanna reportedly designing a collection for River Island and Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence becoming the face of Miss Dior handbags.
