7 Influential Women from TV Film ...

Influential women in TV & film have had a massive impact on modern entertainment, and in 2024, this influence is more palpable than ever. Now, if you've ever binge-watched a show or cried through an entire movie (don’t lie, we’ve all done it), you've experienced the magic these trailblazing women bring to our screens. Think about it: where would we be without the quick-witted minds behind characters like Leslie Knope or the fierce determination of heroes like Ripley? I've got some personal favorites who have shaped not just my Netflix queue, but also my perception of strength, wit, and downright awesomeness.

When we dive into the realm of influential women, names like Shonda Rhimes, Ava DuVernay, and Reese Witherspoon instantly come to mind. Now, I don’t know about you, but I've lost count of the sleepless nights thanks to Shonda. Can anyone else relate to sticking around for “one more episode” only to find themselves wide awake at 3 AM because Olivia Pope just revealed another jaw-dropping secret? Guilty as charged!

And let’s not forget the unsung heroines behind the scenes, the ones scripting those unforgettable lines and directing those iconic moments. Ever wondered what drives these women to excel? Or maybe you're curious about their impact on young girls dreaming big in today’s world? We’ve got stories that will blow your mind and perhaps inspire a whoop of joy.

By the way, if you’ve ever tried to explain the sheer genius of Tina Fey’s 30 Rock to a friend and failed miserably, I’ve been there. My well-intentioned “You have to see Liz Lemon do her thing” often falls flat. But seriously, primary keywords, people; this woman is a game-changer. Much the same can be said about the fantastic directors and producers who are redefining the industry, one plot twist at a time.

From the very start of our deep-dive into these powerhouse personalities, we’ll be talking about how these game-changing women have influenced not just other artists, but entire generations. What’s fascinating is how they've built legacies that another Hollywood hopeful can aspire to in the next decade. They’ve opened doors that, frankly speaking, were previously bolted shut.

You might even find yourself diving into a new appreciation for why representation matters on the screen. Remember, these women aren't just characters; they're icons, each contributing a unique voice and vision to the rich tapestry of TV and film.

So grab your popcorn (or kale chips, if you’re on that new 2024 health kick) and get ready to explore some truly riveting stories. From one binge-watcher to another, I promise you, this is a ride you won't want to miss.

Angelina Jolie

«I’ve been reckless but I’m not a rebel without a cause.»
Angelina Jolie is on the top of my list because I have been obsessing over her since I first saw her in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Not only is she a fantastic actress but she does well off screen as well. Angelina Jolie has never been shy of saying what she means whenever she wants and that is what I love about her. She has no reservation when it comes to standing up for women empowerment or supporting the less fortunate.

2

Lena Dunham

«I am anti-pants.»
I first laid eyes on Lena Dunham when I watched her indie film "Tiny Furniture". Her character instantly stuck with me as my New York counterpart. A couple of months later I heard about her new show Girls on HBO which has changed my world ever since. Lena Dunham is the creator, director, writer, producer and star of this show. Sound like a mouthful? It sounds like a successful woman to me. I could not imagine making this list without putting Lena on this list because we could all learn something from both Dunham and her bare-all character, Hannah, on the show.

3

Marilyn Monroe

«Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.»

Marilyn Monroe is every man’s fantasy and every woman’s idol. There are plenty of negatives and positives to Ms. Monroe, but I choose to focus on the positives. There is no denying that Marilyn Monroe was a street smart, young woman, who knew exactly what she wanted. Marilyn Monroe had plenty of imperfections that she did not deny nor hide; which has helped me to be confident in all of my imperfections as well.

4

Courtney Love

"You need to write on your own and produce your own life.»
Courtney Love is one of my favorite redemption stories. Living through addiction, the loss of her husband, and becoming a single mom can take a huge toll on someone but Courtney Love is looking great and I am sure she is feeling it too. Courtney Love teaches us that it is never too late to change your life, but you have to change it for yourself and no one else.

5

Kerry Washington

«So many struggled so that all of us could have a voice in this great democracy and live up to the first three words of our constitution: We the people. I love that phrase so much.»

Kerry Washington is a strong, powerful African-American woman both on-screen and off. I instantly loved her as Olivia Pope on Scandal and fell deeper in love with her while she promoted her new movie, Django Unchained. I know not many people watch celebrity interviews but Kerry Washington is a real pro. The way she talks about her heritage and how open and proud she is about being an African-American woman is truly inspiring for me.

Ellen DeGeneres

«I think we need more love in the world. We need more kindness, more compassion, more joy, more laughter. I definitely want to contribute to that.»

If you watch the Ellen Show, you know how she ends each episode. Say it with me: «Love one another.» Ellen DeGeneres is the epitome of love on t.v right now. Her never-ending positivity and compassion is what makes her a joy to watch. Every show she is either helping someone in need or showing us how there is still generosity in the world by showcasing everyday heroes. Ellen DeGeneres has showed many that spending your life helping others and loving each other makes a huge impact on everyone’s life.

7

Mae West

«You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.»
Fiesty. That is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Mae West. An icon to many and beloved by everyone. I have not met one person who has not enjoyed Mae West. Her humor and wit is what makes her one of the best actresses in the world, even to this day. She has a no nonsense attitude with a love for life (and men). Mae West is divine in everything she has been in and teaches us all to love the life you're living and to make everyday count!

These women are what keep me inspired everyday. I know there is a lot of hurt and sadness in the world, but when I hear about the things that these women have done, I feel hopeful. These are the type of women that we should be influenced by. Women that make a difference and teach us something. Now that you know my 7 influential women in TV & Film, I want to hear yours! Do you agree with my list? Should I have added someone? I would love to hear your thoughts.

I love Ellen!!

where's jennifer lawrence?

Definitely do not agree with Angelina Jolie. She made out with her brother. She drinks blood. And she stole another woman's husband. No one should be influenced by her.

I highly approve of Kerry Washington being on this list, I absolutely love her!

Marilyn Monroe really ???

Forgot Oprah and Whoopie Goldburgh
