15 Celebrities People Love to Hate - Who is Yours?

1 Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is currently one of the most popular celebrities people love to hate, and they hate her with a vengeance. The recent award show circuit seemed to take things up a notch, with people on Twitter actively devoting their time to explaining just why they hate her. Many of them don't even know and admittedly have no real reason, but the majority of haters seem to think that she comes off as insincere. They accuse her of playing the role of Anne Hathaway, of acting like she's humble rather than being humble, and of basically emoting through her entire life as if she's on stage. I see that sometimes, but although I'm not the biggest Hathaway fan, I don't think she deserves all of this. What's your take?

2 Chris Brown

The hatred surrounding Chris Brown is much more black and white. The brutal end of his first relationship with Rihanna provided more than enough fodder to keep the hate going, and that's understandable. No man should ever lay hands on a woman like that. What's worse, I think, is that he's never seemed really repentant or apologetic, and instead gets argumentative, sulky, and sometimes downright insulting when anyone references his violent antics. The fact that these two got back together for a while adds to the hatred, but more than anything, I think it's Chris Brown's continued bad behavior and lack of sincerity that keep the dislike so strong.

3 Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is always high on any hate list, along with much of her family. While Khloe (by the way, I think she is gorgeous times ten), Kourtney, and Rob get their fair share of haters, the brunt seems to fall on Kim and on her mom-ager, Kris Jenner. I have some very strong opinions on Kris myself, but with Kim, the reasons revolve around the shady beginnings of her fame and her attitude, which sometimes comes across as entitled, childish, and hypocritical. Her alleged sham of a marriage and barrage of reality shows don't help matters. Why do you think she's so hated?

4 Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow was recently given the dubious honor of being the most hated celebrity in the world. This is a case where I understand it but don't really get it. See, I think Gwyneth is an excellent actress and love watching her movies, because she's not afraid to go all out – see The Royal Tenenbaums and Shallow Hal. But as a person? Yeah, she occasionally rubs a nerve – but not enough to make me hate her, because what the hell, I don't know her. Still, her dieting “advice,” parenting tips, and basically the entire GOOP empire make people loathe her. Detractors say she comes off as entitled, snotty, holier-than-thou, and generally better than everyone else. Is that going a little too far?

5 Justin Bieber

Oh, the Biebs. Even before his recent antics, he had his haters. Now, however, Bieber Fever takes on an entirely different meaning and seems to describe the rabid legions of haters who just want him to go away. This time the hatred doesn't stem from accusations of musical mediocrity, but rather from an entitled attitude and an unbecoming petulance when he has to face the consequences of his actions. I mean, what's the deal with his poor little monkey? Having recently been thoroughly booed at the Billboards, he's constantly on the defensive because he doesn't see anything wrong with his attitude. Do you?

6 Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart had her haters from the start as well. People jumped on her the second she was cast alongside Robert Pattinson in the Twilight franchise. Some just hated her for getting cozy with Edward, but those who hate the books and movies in general just dislike her. They call her robotic, emotionless, untalented, and make many mentions of her seemingly perpetual mouth-breathing expression – which does wear on the nerves, even I'll admit. After she got caught cheating on her lover with a married man, however, the floodgates really opened. People went after her with a vengeance, and while the urge is understandable, even I have to wonder if things would have gone the same for another actress – and I'm definitely not Team K-Stew.

7 Amanda Bynes

I do not know what is happening to Amanda Bynes, and I both hope and fear that if she ever gets wind of this post, she'll threaten to sue me on Twitter, rip me a new one for not getting her permission to write her name or publish her picture, and then tell me how ugly I am. She's been behaving in a very bizarre fashion for months, in a reign of weirdness that recently reached its climax when she was sent to a psychiatric center and to rehab. Before that, she even allegedly tweeted Rihanna that she deserved to get abused because she's ugly, although now she claims that wasn't her. Regardless, people no longer have a lot of love for the adorable girl who inspired laughter with her comedic chops. In fact, haters are gleefully counting down to a full-tilt Britney/Lindsay meltdown.

8 Lindsay Lohan

Speaking of La Lohan, she's still one of the biggest celebrities people love to hate. This one is a little easier to get, because she's throwing her life away – and this girl really is super talented. The fact that she's unwilling to hold herself accountable or take responsibility for her actions make people hate her that much more. She's holding herself to a higher standard and probably, honestly, needs to do a full jail stint or something. I think if something just humbled her, really humbled her, it might turn her around.

9 Taylor Swift

And then there's pretty Taylor Swift. She gets hate for basically being a slightly naïve and rather immature 23 year old. I mean, she's 23. Yeah, it's not quite cute that she's seemingly made a gimmick out of ripping on her exes in songs, but honestly? It's kind of funny. And yeah, she seems to think every new relationship is True Love Foreverdy-Ever – but again, she's 23, and sometimes, for some girls, 23 is just like that. I get that it's annoying, I really do, but I think it might be fair to reserve all that hatred if she's still pulling this stuff at 25.

Yes, Snooki seems to be turning her life around ever since her son was born, but before that everyone loved to hate this party girl. Snooki got famous by appearing on "The Jersey Shore," which some people loved, but most people loved to hate. It's hard to really like someone that got famous by drunkenly making a fool of herself on television. This doesn't mean that people should hate her, but some people will look for any reason to hate a "celebrity."

11 Miley Cyrus

Thanks to Miley's infamous VMA performance she is the new celebrity people love to hate. This doesn't mean she didn't get a fair share of hate before, but it has recently gone to a new level. Before her performance, Miley was also looked down upon when pictures of her half naked and a video of her high were leaked. It's hard to keep the public's respect as well as your spot as a role model when you keep making mistakes. It might not be right to hate her, but it's easy to see why some people do.

12 Lady Gaga

Gaga is one of the people on this list that I just can't wrap my head around belonging here. The reason that people hate Lady Gaga is because they don't understand her and some people just can't like something that they don't understand. Lady Gaga is very strange and expresses herself in weird outfits and by putting out music videos that are odd. I just can't jump on this bandwagon because Gaga promotes being different and expressing yourself despite what people think of you. I just don't understand why people hate that.

13 Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise is hated all because of Scientology. Most people hate Scientology, so along with that they hate the person that made it as famous as it has become. Of course nobody should hate a religion, but that's beside the point here. People love to scrutinize everything that Tom Cruise does now because of his connection to Scientology, and they also love to spread rumors about him secretly being gay. This is such a strange reason to hate someone, but is there ever a good reason to hate someone you don't know?

14 Nickelback

I still don't understand why people hate Nickelback! One second they were famous and their music was loved by many and all of a sudden everyone hates them and makes fun of them. When I've asked people why they dislike the band, they have answered that the music became to repetitive and similar. Is this a good reason to hate a band? Probably not, but for some reason people accept it as a reason to tear into the band on a regular basis.

15 Kanye West

Even people who love Kanye's music have to admit that he's too arrogant for his own good. Fans of Taylor Swift, who is also on this list, hate him for stealing her moment when she won her VMA and saying that Beyonce should have won the award. Kanye West may be a great rapper, which is also subjective, but his attitude is something that many people just can't get on board with.

And there you have them, some of the biggest, most popular celebrities people love to hate. Do I hate them? Absolutely not. They're lives don't affect mine. Do I occasionally rip on more than a few of them? Yeah, okay, guilty. I think that's where most people fall, but then there are those people who seem to want these folks destroyed.
