Blake Lively starts off our list of celebrities wearing plaid in this Gucci belted dress. You don’t usually see plaid worn as eveningwear but this dress could easily be styled up for a cocktail event. The plunging neckline and halterneck style of the dress shows off some skin and keeps the whole outfit from coming across as too dowdy. She completes her look with bright green earrings, cap toe heels, and a metallic manicure.
Hailee Steinfeld works a preppy plaid look at a Chanel show. She teams a uniform-like plaid cardigan, complete with patchwork emblem, with a leather pencil skirt and platform pumps. She accessorises with a slouchy cap and fun Lego-shaped clutch.
Gwen Stefani brightens up an all-black outfit with a red plaid coat. The plaid coat is quite a timeless wardrobe piece, and here Gwen teams it with dark jeans, a leather-look top, striped turtleneck, and ankle boots. Cream sunglasses and a matching bright red lipstick complete this classic meets punk-rock styled outfit.
Taylor Swift sticks to her usual preppy look in this knee-length plaid skirt. She teams it with a bright red top and basic black shoes. She also works a red theme throughout, with red manicured nails and a reddish lipstick. This is a very wearable fall look that you could easily recreate on a budget.
Ashley Madekwe takes a dressier approach to overalls with this outfit. Her outfit incorpoarates two big trends of the moment: overalls and plaid. She dresses up her plaid overalls with a strappy black heels and a compact black clutch.
Here, Alexa Chung works a casual daytime look in a plaid dress by Paul Smith. She goes for an edgier look by teaming it with black ankle boots but you could also work a more polished daytime look by teaming a similar plaid dress with patent ballet shoes and a ladylike handbag.
Chloe Sevigny works her usual brand of hipster cool in this plaid and denim combo. She wears a black and white plaid shirt with faded cropped jeans and black clogs. She also wears oversized sunglasses, a chunky gold watch, and compact barrel bag.
Plaid doesn’t have to always be entirely preppy, as Miranda Cosgrove shows us here. Her plaid dress features a leather-look drop waist skirt and studded collar. A stack of bangles and bow platform pumps completes this funky plaid look.
Zendaya Coleman teams her blue and red plaid dress with some pretty pink heels for a playful look. The cut and style of the dress is classic and would look great dressed up or down. While this outfit is more of a dressed up look, you could easily wear it with loafers and a denim jacket for a casual daytime look.
