Pink Singer Pink was the target of some cruel comments about her weight when she attended an event recently (she looks fine, by the way). Her dignified response pointed out that she was perfectly happy with how she looked, and that the event she attended - a cancer fundraiser - was far more important than her weight and appearance. Bravo for Pink for getting to the heart of the matter and not letting pointless jibes get to her.

Kelly Clarkson

One of the best ways to get back at haters is to show that you're a nicer person than them. Singer Kelly Clarkson has often been the target of comments about her weight. She recently commented that "We are who we are. Whatever size." Kelly also said that she felt bad for other women who were picked on for their weight, thus showing a good deal more empathy than the people who make comments.

Lena Dunham

Another way to deal with haters is to carry on regardless, and you can rely on Lena Dunham to have a pithy response for her critics. When she was criticised for wearing shorts to an event, Lena's answer was that a thinner woman wouldn't have had the same reaction. "Get used to it," she said, "I am going to show my thighs every day until I die!"

Tyra Banks

Supermodels are expected to be perfect and never gain an ounce, it seems. Although she's long since retired from the catwalk, Tyra Banks has been criticised for gaining weight. Her response was pithy: "To all of you that have something nasty to say about me or other women … Kiss my fat a**!" Good on you, Tyra.

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore had a pretty darn perfect way of answering her haters. She said, "I don't have enough room in my life for the neurosis of other people's expectations." Drew was right: other people's attitudes are their own problem, and you should focus on the things that are positive in your life. Don't let other people get to you.

It's not just the girls though who are picked on about their weight. Liam Payne of One Direction was on the receiving end of comments that he was gaining weight (he wasn't, and what if he was?). His response was threefold: he pointed out that he didn't need anyone's approval, posted that his BMI was well within normal parameters, and finished off with captioning a photo of him with a cushion stuffed up his t-shirt, "OH MY GOD I'm just so fat these days!" Nice one, Liam.

GABOUREY Sidibe

Success can be the best way of answering your haters. Actress Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her role in the movie Precious. She was also picked on for her weight. Her response to this is one of my favorite ways any celeb has dealt with their haters. "I mos def cried about it on that private jet last night on my way to my dream job last night." Wonderful!

I hate how society is always like, "all sizes and perfect and beautiful" but it's bullshit. There are people who say those stuff and afterwards they criticize celebrities to be skinny like sticks. Why do people (most girls) have to pick on someone else's weight while they probably don't have the perfect body. Stop the hypocrisy. Who cares if people are over weight! They can still be beautiful and have better personalities than the haters!

Lena Dunham is going to get a reaction, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have not yet read her book, so I can't comment on that. But the issue here is weight, people who are criticized based on how they look, essentially "she/he's so fat" and how fatuous that criticism is. And how these people respond by basically saying "stuff it!" Since body image is an in-going issue for women, especially girls and young women, it is noteworthy that these celebs refused to be cowed...
