Be it Pride, Gluttony, Sloth, Envy, Greed, Wrath or Lust, from time to time we all indulge in the 7 deadly sins, and secretly enjoy it. Whilst we may all enjoy dipping into the dark side, some celebrities embody the 7 deadly sins more than the rest of us. Although shortlisting celebs was a difficult task, these seven stand out for me – do you agree?
Kanye West has been a polarizing figure in the celebrity world for many years. His fashion choices, his music, and his outspokenness have all made him a target for both admiration and criticism. But one thing that cannot be denied is his pride.
Throughout his career, Kanye has made it clear that he thinks highly of himself. He's said that he is the greatest, and even likened himself to a vessel for God. This kind of pride has been evident in his choice to name his daughter North West, as well as his various fashion statements that often draw attention to himself.
Kanye's pride has also been seen in his music. He's released multiple songs that contain lyrics that express his self-confidence. For example, in the song "Power" he raps "I guess every superhero need his theme music." This lyric is indicative of Kanye's belief in his own greatness.
Kanye's pride has also been seen in his interactions with other celebrities. He's been involved in various feuds with other celebrities, including Taylor Swift and Jay-Z. He's also been known to speak out against other celebrities who he believes are not as talented as he is.
Mariah Carey is one of the most iconic and successful female singers in the world. She has sold over 200 million records worldwide and has earned numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards, 19 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, and 14 Billboard Music Awards.
However, her success has also earned her a reputation for being a diva. She is known for her outrageous demands, which have included requests for exclusive champagne, specific dressing-room decor, and even 20 white kittens and 100 white doves to be released when she illuminated Christmas lights in London.
Carey's diva demands and self-indulgent behavior have made her the perfect embodiment of the sin of gluttony. Gluttony is defined as an excessive desire for food or drink, or an excessive desire for anything else. Carey's demands for luxury and extravagance certainly fit this definition.
In addition to her diva demands, Carey is also known for her extravagant lifestyle. She has owned several lavish homes, including a mansion in New York City and a beachfront property in the Bahamas. She also owns a fleet of luxury cars, including a Rolls Royce and a Ferrari.
Spencer Matthews is a British socialite and reality TV star best known for his role in the hit show Made In Chelsea. He is the son of landowner and former racing driver David Matthews and his wife Jane Spencer. He is also the brother of reality TV star James Matthews.
Spencer is often associated with the sin of sloth due to his privileged lifestyle and his tendency to be lazy. He has been known to take advantage of his family's wealth, often leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. He is also known for his womanizing ways, having cheated on several of his girlfriends, including Stephanie Pratt, sister of reality TV star Spencer Pratt.
Spencer is also notorious for his arrogant attitude and his tendency to look down on those around him. He has been criticized for his lack of ambition and drive, choosing to rely on his family's wealth and connections rather than work hard to achieve success. Despite his privileged upbringing, he has yet to make any significant contribution to society or use his wealth in a meaningful way.
Paris Hilton is an American media personality, businesswoman, socialite, and model. She is the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton, the founder of Hilton Hotels. Hilton rose to fame in 2003 after the release of a sex tape with her then-boyfriend Rick Salomon. She is also known for her appearances on the reality television series The Simple Life, which aired from 2003 to 2007.
Hilton is an example of envy, as she is known for ditching her friends when they become more famous than her. This was seen in the feud between her and Nicole Ritchie, who were best friends before Ritchie's career began to take off. Hilton has also been known to prioritize fame over her friendships, leading to a reputation of envy.
Simon Cowell is a well-known celebrity who has made a fortune in the music industry. He is the creator of popular shows such as Xfactor, American Idol and Britain/America’s got talent. Despite facing criticism for his shows, Cowell has become a household name and a symbol of greed.
Cowell is known for his lavish lifestyle and his love of luxury. He is often seen driving expensive cars and wearing designer clothing. He is also known for his love of money and has been accused of exploiting the contestants on his shows in order to make a profit.
Cowell has also been accused of using his power and influence to manipulate the music industry. He has been accused of using his connections to ensure that certain artists and songs are successful, while others are not. This has led to accusations that Cowell is using his power to increase his own wealth.
Cowell has also been accused of taking advantage of vulnerable people. He has been accused of exploiting the contestants on his shows, by manipulating them into believing that they can become successful. This has led to accusations of him being greedy and selfish.
Hugh Hefner is certainly a celebrity who embodies lust. As the founder of Playboy Enterprises, Hefner is a symbol of the male sexual desire that has been celebrated for decades. Hefner has long been an advocate for sexual freedom and has been known to have multiple live-in girlfriends, all of whom are much younger than him. His lifestyle of lavish parties, luxurious mansions, and beautiful women has made him a symbol of a life of excess and indulgence.
Hefner's Playboy empire has been controversial, with some critics arguing that it objectifies and commodifies women. However, Hefner has consistently argued that his magazine is for celebrating women's sexuality, and that it is ultimately empowering. He has also been a vocal advocate for civil rights, and has been an important figure in the fight for LGBTQ rights.
Hefner has been a controversial figure, but his influence on the culture of sex and sexuality cannot be denied. His legacy is one of both celebration and criticism, and he will remain an iconic figure for many years to come. Hefner's embodiment of lust is a testament to the power of human sexuality, and the importance of celebrating it in a safe and responsible way.
In defence of these celebrities, they only beat their peers by the breadth of a hair. Justin Bieber, for example nearly topped Greed, Pride, Gluttony, sloth….but I’m sure an article of Bieber bashing would be far from interesting! Do you agree with the celebs on the list? If not, who tops your list of sinful celebrities and why?
The seven deadly sins have been around for centuries, but they're still relevant today. We can see them in our everyday lives, from the way we act to the things we say. Even celebrities can embody the seven sins. In an article published on a women-focused blog in the "celebs" category, seven celebrities were listed as embodying the seven sins.
Alec Baldwin was listed as embodying wrath. In 2007, he left a voicemail for his 11-year-old daughter in which he ranted about her "pain-in-the-ass mother" and attributed a list of unflattering character flaws to the pre-adolescent herself. This parenting faux pas overshadowed any on-screen performance by Baldwin for years to come.
Other celebrities listed in the article included Brad Pitt for Greed, Kanye West for Pride, Gwyneth Paltrow for Gluttony, Paris Hilton for Sloth, Kim Kardashian for Lust, and Donald Trump for Envy. While these celebrities may have embodied the seven sins more than their peers, it's important to remember that most people are guilty of these sins in some way.
