The modern day concept of beauty is often associated with perfection. A flawless skin, sculpted abs that remind us of the Greek god Adonis, muscular legs and a well-defined jaw line constitute the traits that delineate attractive male celebrities. Yet, although many of the actors and music artists that capture the hearts of millions possess these attributes, the ones I'm about to list also have another thing in common: scars. From accidents on the set to terrible experiences from their personal life, they’re all boasting a permanent, more or less visible mark. Let's find out how it happened!

1. Humphrey Bogart's – Lip
One of the most elegant and stylish actors of the silver screen, Bogart sported a mark on his lip, which would spark a lot of controversy regarding its origins over the years. While some sources suggest that he was beaten by his father as a child, others claim it came from a piece of shrapnel during his service in the Navy. We also have a hypothesis according to which a war prisoner blindsided Bogart during a transport.
2. Sylvester Stallone – Left Side of His Face
Stallone has amassed a large collection of scars during his time in the industry. However, the most iconic physical defect of this awesome action movie star is the paralysis of the lower left section of his face, which occurred as a result of complications during his birth. It seems that the doctors handling the procedure had to use a forceps and accidentally severed a nerve. But hey, he did manage to overcome the setback and, in fact, the resulting speech impediment is now one of his trademarks!
Frequently asked questions
3. Steve Buscemi – Cheek
Handsome is probably not the first attribute that pops into your head when you're thinking about Steve Buscemi, but you'll have to admit that there is definitely something about him that sparks interest. What you may not have realized, thanks to the successful efforts of the makeup crew, is that he's sporting a rather large scar on his cheek since 2001. In an attempt to come to the aid of fellow actor Vince Vaughn, who got into an argument with a 21 year old in a bar – an incident that quickly escalated and was eventually stopped by the intervention of the police – Buscemi was stabbed repeatedly in the face, neck and above the eye.
4. Sean Bean – Arm and Left Eye
Walking action-movie plot spoiler, Sean Bean has had his brush with violence as well; he was stabbed in the arm defending the honor of damsel in distress, April Summers, a Playboy model. His reaction to the incident was also spectacular, as he simply returned to the establishment to order another drink after heroically chasing away the assailant. The scar on his left eye, however, has a much less impressive story: he was accidentally struck by Harrison Ford in the face with a boat's hook, on the set of "Patriot Games".
5. Bear Grylls – All over His Body
It would probably come as a surprise if the legendary Bear Grylls didn't sport a few scars from his adventures, considering the amount of risky endeavors he's voluntarily put himself through over the years. For example, he managed to shatter several vertebrae in a parachuting accident in Zambia and break his shoulder in Antarctica! However, the scar across his entire chest, which he considers the most "spectacular", happened in a very ridiculous fashion: Grylls burned himself taking a hot pizza out of the oven without a shirt on!

6. Johnny Knoxville – Nether Regions
Like Bear Grylls, the star of the Jackass TV show is among the celebrities that you fully expect to be covered in scars, due to the nature of their job. What few know is that he also managed to seriously injure his 'tender area' in a motorcycle crash, while attempting a back flip. After several years of treatment, the star told the press that he is still required to use catheters in order to prevent the forming of constricting scar tissue along his urethra. Ouch!
7. Seal – Trademark Facial Scars
Seal's iconic facial scarring stems from a condition known as DLE, a form of lupus. Although Seal has fully recovered since he was afflicted by it when he was barely 23 years old, the scars remained.
