Judy Blume

Judy Blume It may have been that best–selling author Judy Blume feared the worst as she was 74 before being diagnosed with breast cancer. Due to her high profile it is possible she has inspired millions of women to check their own breasts, and also let them see that age is not a barrier to recovery, and that a healthy lifestyle is no guarantee of not getting breast cancer in the first place – anyone can succumb.

Suzanne Somers

Suzanne Somers It is now 12 years since Suzanne Somers began her battle against breast cancer. Like many celebs who overcome breast cancer she refused to receive chemotherapy, although she did undergo surgery and receive radiotherapy while trialing alternative remedies, including mistletoe injections. Melissa Etheridge

Melissa Etheridge While her refusal to make light of the treatment she underwent may have seemed to frighten others, it would have prepared many women for what they would face with chemotherapy.
